The novel ‘Sure’ by 19 year old Rafaat Geelani was released today by the renowned radio personality RJ Nasir at Mahatta’s Café, Poloview at a glittering function. The novel published by FreshCode Books is the second foray of the author into writing. A host of poets, spoken word artists and speakers from across the valley were present at the launch. An open mic was held in honour of the book, where several budding writers presented their art before the audience to thundering applause. The novel is set in Spain during the Spanish civil war, and follows the life of two friends as the trauma of war rends their lives apart.

Speaking at the event, the author Rafaat explained “I wanted to move away from the common narrative of speaking about Kashmir, and yet I wished to write about the theme of war which is familiar to us.” He expressed his gratitude to FreshCode Books who helped him realise his dream: “Without the help of FreshCode, the book would never have seen the light of day. They helped me at every stage – from the manuscript to arranging the launch.”

The publication of the novel was praised by one and all, who also appreciated the efforts of the publishing house. Speaking at the release, Ehsaan Quddusi, FreshCode books said, “We strive to provide our authors the complete boquet of services from editing to proof reading to publishing to marketing all under the same roof. We wish to make Kashmir a hub of literature.”

The Chief Guest RJ Nasir praised the book and said, “It is heartening to see young authors are taking the initiative to develop a literary culture in Kashmir. I can safely predict that in the coming years literature from Kashmir will come into its own.”

The book will be available on all e-commerce stores as well as on Freshcode Books Online Store.
