Srinagar, Oct 13, KNT: Locals hit to roads and staged protest against Army after soldiers allegedly thrashed two youth in Rawalpora area of Srinagar outskirts on Tuesday morning.
Protesters blocked the road and demanded action against that they say ‘unbridled’ soldiers.
The protesters both males and females shouted slogans against Army.
The protesters told news agency KNT that soldiers who frequently stop traffic whenever army vehicle pass through the road caught hold of two local youth and thrashed them mercilessly without any provocation.
“Their only fault was they crossed the road when there was movement of army vehicles. A couple of soldiers hit them with gun butts, thrashed and abused them near Rawalpora Bridge,” the protesters said condemning the ‘hooliganism’ of the soldiers.
Locals identified the victims as Shahid Ahad Bhat and Aqib Ashraf Dar, both residents of Rawalpora.
“Blood was oozing out when we shifted them to hospital,” they said and sought action against the responsible soldiers.
When contacted Srinagar based Defence Spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told KNT that they are ascertaining the facts. (KNT)
