Srinagar, April 7, KNT: Senior separatist leader Dr Hubbi along with some other prisoners were released by the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday as part of the ongoing exercise to free detainees in wake of looming Covid-19 threat.
Dr Hubbi was facing detention since August 5, when the Centre abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated the state into two union territories.
The Government on the directions of State High Court has constituted a high powered committee to look into the cases of those prisoners with lesser offence. Director General of Prisons, Jammu and Kashmir has been given authority to release the prisoners on parole.
On Monday, Hubbi was released from Srinagar Central Jail. State High Court had quashed his detention under Public Safety Act thrice. His detention under PSA was challenged by his son, who is an Advocate.
The son of Dr Hubbi confirmed that his father has been relased. He said his father has reached home and he is safe and sound.
Sources added that more political prisoners will be released in coming days.(KNT)
