Udhampur: Apart from maintaining peace and harmony in the region, the Indian Army has also taken on the mantle of empowering women in the far-flung areas. As part of this initiative, the Indian Army recently conducted a ‘Food Processing Cadre for Women’ of Reasi district from 26 to 29 April 2019.
During the four days cadre, 35 local women were taught various food processing techniques by using the readily available ingredients thereby avoiding the use of chemicals. Women look forward to self sustenance and improving their standard of living and such initiatives by Army, especially those enhancing traditional skills such as food making, weaving and knitting have helped women in realising their true potential.
Speaking on the occasion, the women who attended the course thanked the Army for enabling them to become self-reliant. The Sarpanch of village said that the various initiatives by the Army, especially for the women and youth, would assist in the all-round socio-economic development of the region.
