Srinagar: PDP youth secretary, Arif Laigroo has demanded roll of media policy recently announced by the Jammu and Kashmir Government.

He termed it s move to choke the media in Kashmir. He said by this policy government reality will never come on for. “Basically the government wants what is happening in trouble torn Kashmir should be kept under wraps,” Laigroo said adding that truth has always won.

According to statement issued, the senior PDP leader said that as Kashmir, like other parts of country is battling deadly COVID -19, the JK government is issuing orders and making policies. “ It is unfortunate,” he and demanded roll back of policy as soon as possible.

Laigroo said that it is anti-democratic and assault on freedom of press. He said people have a right to know and journalist have report the facts. “ This policy restraints media fraternity from reporting the facts,” he said.

He also raised concerns about the conditions of journalists and urged the government to end restrictions and harassment of journalists placed following revocation of the region’s special status last August.
