Srinagar: If all goes well for Sheikh Imran, he is likely to become the new Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation with the help of BJP and Congress Corporators.

The former Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran was in Jail when a No Confidence Motion was brought against him and was removed from the position. Parvez Qadri from National Conference accordingly assumed the charge of Deputy Mayor.

Sheikh Imran who was elected Corporator on the ticket of Congress Party later joined Jammu Kashmir People’s Conference led by Sajad Lone. Ironically, the incumbent Mayor and bête noire of Sheikh Imran is also the part of Sajad Lone’s People’s Conference.

For the second time a No Confidence Motion was moved against incumbent Mayor today. Sheikh Imran talked to Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and after that a No Confidence Motion was brought against the Mayor.

“Our basic motive is to dislodge the present Mayor who propagated so much corruption in the Corporation,” said a Corporator to news agency KNT.

“Been informed that BJP has sought a ‘Vote of No Confidence’ in the SMC against me. Those who have submitted the motion are either elected members/office bearers of BJP or unambiguously associated with BJP. This is the second such motion by BJP against me within 6 months,” the Mayor tweeted without naming anyone.

Yesterday, Matuu had alleged that all the three parties BJP, Congress and National Conference are involved in this game. “IF BJP, Congress and NC are ctually coming together to vote me out, I wear it as a badge of honour,” he had said prompting Deputy Mayor Parvez Qadri and NC Spokesperson Aga Roohullah to clear the position of the party. Roohullah said that it is unimaginable and never on earth NC can join or support BJP.

BJP District President for Srinagar, Ashok Bhat refuted all the claims of incumbent Mayor saying that his reaction depicts his frustration and distress.

“If the Corporators have chosen bring No Confidence Motion, there might be something wrong with the incumbent Mayor. It is time for him to introspect and not to cast any aspersions without any proof.

“Those who don’t deliver have no right to be in power,” Bhat said.

If sources are to be believed, 43 out of 70 Corporators are supporting this No Confidence Motion against the present Mayor.

“If this No Confidence Motion succeeds against Mayor, then there will be fresh elections within a month and only after that a new Mayor will be elected and God knows who will be the new face. National Conference is not a part of this No Confidence Motion which is moved by a PDP backed Corporator Waheed Dar of Zakura Ward. Even the fate of Sheikh Imran is in balance as future is uncertain and nobody knows what will be the mood of those Corporators who are right now supporting BJP,” said a Corporator to KNT.
